Assessing level of resilience to geological hazards in Beijing

  • The index system for assessing the resilience of geological hazards in Beijing was constructed from five aspects: economic conditions, population situation, social security and development, infrastructure and disaster management. The intrinsic resilience score of geological hazards in each district and county was calculated by applying the entropy weight-TOPSIS method, and the assessment results of geological hazards resilience level were obtained by combining the geological hazards susceptibility scores. The results show that: 1) the resilience level of geological hazards in Beijing shows a clear trend of high urban areas and low suburban areas, with Haidian and Chaoyang districts having the highest level of geological hazards resilience; 2) Chaoyang, Miyun and Huairou have the highest overall level of geological hazards susceptibility, while the other urban areas, except Chaoyang, have alower levels of geological hazards susceptibility among the six urban districts; 3) Chaoyang district has a high level of geological hazards resilience, but has a high level of geological hazards susceptibility, so it still has a high risk of geological hazards. The level of geological hazards resilience in Huairou, Miyun, Mentougou and Fangshan is low, and the level of geological hazards susceptibility is high, with a high risk in case of sudden geological disasters. They need to strengthen geological hazards risk assessment, improve the construction of debris flow control projects and build geological hazards refuge sites.
